The Cinderella story is a rags to riches tale of a little girl who is forced to work as a servant until one day she gets a little magical help to catch a prince and leave her situation. Here are 13 facts about this unlucky little girl.
The oldest known written version of the Cinderella story is the Egyptian version “Rhodopis”. This story was published in 7 BCE.
Cinderella’s story falls under the ‘persecuted herione’ archetype according to the Aarne–Thompson-Uther classification model. This is a numerical classification system for folktales.
While Cinderella’s iconic glass slippers may seem beautiful they are definitely not practical. Even if they don’t break from her weight other factors such as walking, running, and marble ballrooms would be highly hazardous.

There are over 100 adaptations of the story in different types of media, such as ballets, operas, musicals, movies, TV shows, books, and music. Some of the most notable are:

Cinderella’s dress is best known in its cornflower blue color, however different versions have her dressed in a while rainbow of colors from deep reds to shining golds. Cinderella is probably the most popular choice for a retold fairy tale. Mostly because it is such a short and nebulous story that can be creatively stretched any way you like.
